RESILIENT HEALTH SYSTEMS:
ENHANCING QUALITY AND SAFETY
PATIENTS ALWAYS AT THE HEART

BACKGROUND AND PREVIOUS CONFERENCES

Under the Patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein, HCAC to date has organized seven face-to-face conferences (2010, 2012, 2015, 2017 and 2019, 2023, 2025) and one virtual conference (2021). The conferences hosted a mix of international, local and regional speakers, experts in the field of health care accreditation, quality improvement and patient safety and were attended on average by more than 850 participants from the healthcare field including healthcare providers (doctors, nurses, technician…etc.), administrators and policy makers from Jordan and the region.

The conferences are built in a way to showcase growth and development in the world of quality and safety and as it relates to Jordan and the region. In 2010, the first conference discussed accreditation as a mode for quality and patient safety, while the second focused on the role of leadership and people in healthcare improvement. The third conference looked at the different domains within healthcare that have to come together to improve quality including education, information technology, human resources, planning and systems, and financial resources. In 2017, the conference delved more into the gap between designing systems and implementing them, calling for patient safety to be addressed right from the beginning. While in 2019, our last face-to-face before the pandemic hit, linked practice to policy with Lord Nigel Crisp as the keynote speaker. The discussions zoomed in on how to ensure that policies support accreditation and patient safety, while practice is positively impacted and vice-versa. Of course, in 2021, our virtual conference addressed quality and patient safety issues in the wake of the pandemic and prepped the audience to be ready for a new norm. The most recent converence held in 2025 focused on Resilient Health Systems and enhancing quality and safety.
